Mr. Preble's 5.0L V8 Swapped Ford Ranger
Every now and then, the GRW crew takes on a project that isn’t our every day in and out bread and butter. While we are the premier Datsun and Nissan specialist shop in our region, we do have a taste for all makes and models, and enjoy working on cool projects, regardless of manufacturer or build direction. Inspired by Caleb’s daily driven 5.0L V8 Swapped Ranger, Mr. Preble initially came into contact with us to purchase some used parts from Caleb, and once they got to talking, the conversation shifted to having us do the assembly and build the entire truck for him.
Piggybacking directly off of Caleb’s previous build on his personal truck, as well as his instruction, Mr. Preble secured a 5.0L Ford Explorer as a donor vehicle, and we began swapping everything over. Mr. Preble went ahead and had the transmission rebuilt, and a few other odds and ends done to the donor car before it got to us.
From there, we did a complete tear down of the donor engine and re-sealed it from the short block up. We installed a set of Torque Monster headers, and Caleb extended the OEM EFI harness, as well as modified it to accommodate the Ranger truck. He also swapped over several components from the cooling system, power steering, and HVAC systems in order to make it all work together, with an OEM fit and finish.
We capped the build off with a set of updated 01 Ranger spindles for bigger brakes, drop springs and a control arm package to finalize the stance and suspension characteristics, and began our quality control testing from there.
In summary, we have a very well rounded crew here at GRW and can handle any project, across a multitude of manufacturers, levels of attention to detail, and project scope.
